Cyclocross event to benefit Seattle Cancer Care Alliance

Starbucks and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance have had a neat relationship for several years. We both sponsor a bicycling race team! You’ve probably seen folks riding around town wearing our green and white jerseys.

In addition to road bike races, our team is involved in cyclocross racing, too. Not familiar with cyclocross? These are great events to watch. Races take place off-road in parks and are usually muddy, messy, and fast-paced.

The MFG Cyclocross series in our community published their race schedule for this fall. Races will take place in King County parks, Washington State parks, and Seattle parks. And, as in past years, MFG Cyclocross will once again partner with the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance/Starbucks Cycling Team to host the Starbucks Gran Prix on Saturday, October 27 in Redmond. A portion of the entry fees will be donated to Seattle Cancer Care Alliance cancer programs. (To date, Low Pressure Promotions, who puts on the race series, has donated close to $20,000 to Seattle Cancer Care Alliance! Thanks, LPP!)

This year the title sponsor for the series is Raleigh Bicycles, located in Kent, WA. The race schedule looks like this:

  • 9-9-2012: Kickoff Cross (Sunday) Kirkland, WA
  • 9-23-2012: Lake Sammamish GP (Sunday) Issaquah, WA
  • 10-6-2012: StarCrossed (Saturday eve) Redmond, WA
  • 10-21-2012: Magnuson Park Cross (Sunday) Seattle, WA
  • 10-27-2012: SCCA/Starbucks GP (Saturday) Redmond, WA
  • 11-11-2012: Woodland Park GP (Sunday) Seattle, WA

These are fun races to watch, and ride. And in late October, will benefit a great cause!
