You’ve heard us chime about Swim Across America – Seattle, the very cool event that benefits research at SCCA.
In fact, Swim Across America is a national network of swimming events dedicated to raising money and awareness for cancer research, prevention, and treatment. Organized by a local, all-volunteer planning committee, Swim Across America – Seattle has been a thriving event since its inception in 2009. This is a family friendly half-mile or two-mile open water
swims takes place on Lake Washington at Luther Burbank Swim Beach.
Swim Across America America – Seattle supports Seattle Cancer Care Alliance because of our commitment to collaboration and expertise in turning cancer patients into cancer survivors. In the last three years, Swim Across America America – Seattle swimmers have raised over $600,000 for cancer research by SCCA doctors.
We would love for you to come out and join us on swim day, Sept. 8! Check out one local swimmer, Scott Lautman, who has done this swim before and was interviewed on KING-TV, in case you need a little motivation to get into that chilly water.
But you don’t have to come swim either to be involved. We need volunteers for the event, or you can just make a donation to be involved.
SAA is an all-volunteer event. Opportunities include:
- registration volunteer
- safety volunteer
- kayaker
- lifeguard
- boater
- paddle boarder
Visit our Team SCCA at Swim Across America page to “join the team” as a swimmer or volunteer!
But, if you’d rather join the event with a simple donation, that’s totally awesome, too. You can donate directly to the event at www.swimacrossamerica.org/seattle and click on DONATE on the righthand side of the page.
Swim Day
The event takes place on Saturday, September 8 at Luther Burbank Park on Mercer Island. There are two swims: a long and short, and a kid’s splash swim. Lots of fun, any way you choose to participate. See you on Swim Day!
